Role: Senior Technical Director (Cybersecurity)
Title: Director/Senior Director
Location: NYC, NY – Fulltime
Mode of Work: 3 days/week onsite required
Required Experience: 15+ years
Summary
We are seeking a seasoned Cybersecurity Senior Technical Director to serve as the engagement lead at one of our premier banking clients, operating as a firmwide horizontal resource responsible for assessing and strengthening cybersecurity posture across business lines and technology platforms. This is a client-facing leadership role that demands equal parts deep technical expertise and executive presence — you will personally conduct security assessments, architecture reviews, and control gap analyses while serving as the primary point of contact for senior Managing Directors, the CISO organization at a major financial institution. You will work horizontally across the organization — cutting across business verticals and shared infrastructure — to identify systemic weaknesses, evaluate control effectiveness, and design practical remediation plans that are consistent and aligned to regulatory expectations. Beyond delivery, you will be expected to cultivate trust at the most senior levels of the client organization, identify opportunities to expand the engagement, and represent our firm with the credibility and gravitas that a top-tier banking client expects. This role requires someone who still gets hands-on with technical findings and is equally comfortable reviewing firewall configurations and presenting a risk-prioritized remediation roadmap to a Board-level technology committee.
Required Qualifications
• Bachelor’s degree from a top-tier university in Computer Science, Cybersecurity, Information Systems, Engineering, or a related field
• Minimum 10 years of progressive experience in cybersecurity with continuous hands-on technical involvement — this is not a role for someone who has moved entirely into governance, strategy, or program management
• Deep, demonstrable technical expertise across core security domains including network and infrastructure security, identity and access management, application security, cloud security, and security operations — you do not need to be an expert in all areas, but you must be fluent enough to personally assess and challenge technical teams across them
• Demonstrated experience leading at least one large-scale cybersecurity assessment, transformation, or remediation program at an enterprise level as the senior technical lead — not solely in an advisory, audit, or oversight capacity
• Proven ability to operate horizontally across an organization, engaging with multiple business lines and technology teams simultaneously and synthesizing findings into a coherent firmwide risk picture
• Strong employment pedigree with experience at recognized consulting firms, global technology companies, major financial institutions, or elite cybersecurity practices
• Proven ability to engage, influence, and build trusted relationships with CISO-level and C-suite stakeholders, with the skill to translate deeply technical findings into business risk language that resonates with non-technical senior leaders
• Working familiarity with cybersecurity frameworks and banking regulatory expectations including NIST CSF, FFIEC CAT, and NYDFS Part 500 — enough to frame technical findings in regulatory context without being a compliance specialist
• Ability to personally get into the weeds — reviewing architecture diagrams, IAM policies, vulnerability scan outputs, cloud configurations, and detection logic rather than relying on junior team members to surface issues
• Strong understanding of cloud security fundamentals across AWS, Azure, or GCP, including shared responsibility models, identity federation, and common misconfiguration patterns
• Strong project management instincts with the ability to build prioritized remediation roadmaps, manage client expectations, and keep engagements on track economically
• Excellent written and verbal communication and presentation skills, with the polish and confidence to lead executive briefings, steering committees, and hands-on technical workshops
• A self-starter with strong business drive — someone who takes ownership of outcomes, proactively identifies risks and opportunities, and operates with an owner’s mindset toward both client success and firm growth
Desired Qualifications
• MBA or Master’s degree from a top-tier program, or advanced degree in Cybersecurity or Computer Science
• Industry certifications such as CISSP, CISM, OSCP, or relevant GIAC certifications — valued as indicators of technical depth, not substitutes for hands-on experience
• Prior consulting experience at large banks or financial institutions, with a practical understanding of how first-line, second-line, and third-line defense models work and how cybersecurity findings flow into regulatory interactions
• Experience with offensive security concepts including red teaming, penetration testing, or adversary simulation — with the ability to interpret findings and drive them into architectural recommendations
• Experience with third-party cyber risk management, including vendor security assessments and TPRM program design
• Familiarity with emerging risk areas such as API security, AI/ML security, or the cybersecurity implications of open banking and real-time payment platforms
• Track record of growing client relationships and identifying follow-on engagement opportunities across adjacent risk and technology domains
