The Role

The Senior Director of Security Architecture & Engineering will head cybersecurity architecture and engineering for Lumen’s Public Sector portfolio. This pivotal role involves owning the strategic direction and technical roadmap for our federal security services while ensuring compliance with key standards such as FISMA, FedRAMP High, NIST 800-53, TIC 3.0, and CMMC. You will spearhead initiatives around cloud and network security architecture, secure design practices, and continuous modernization efforts while collaborating with executives and government stakeholders.

Main Responsibilities
• Set a clear vision and multi-year roadmap for public-sector security architecture and secure service delivery.
• Provide executive oversight on network, cloud, identity, and data-protection architectures in alignment with FedRAMP and federal standards.
• Lead the compliance strategy concerning FISMA, RMF, FedRAMP ATOs, and continuous monitoring processes.
• Act as a senior technical Subject Matter Expert (SME) when engaging with government CIO/CISO stakeholders and internal executives.
• Drive the modernization of security platforms, cloud migration strategies, automation initiatives, and the evolution of SOC/SIEM functions.
• Lead and cultivate a high-performing team of security architects and engineers.
• Collaborate closely with Product, Operations, Program Management, and Compliance teams to deliver secure, reliable, and compliant solutions.

Candidate Requirements
• 15+ years of experience in cybersecurity or network engineering with 5-7+ years in leading security architecture in critical or regulated environments.
• In-depth knowledge of federal compliance frameworks, including FISMA, NIST RMF, FedRAMP, TIC 3.0, and CMMC.
• Broad technical expertise across cloud security, network architecture, identity management, SIEM/SOC design, automation, and cutting-edge security platforms.
• Exceptional executive communication and stakeholder management skills.
• Proven track record in defining strategy, creating roadmaps, and driving cross-functional project execution.
• Master’s degree required; CISSP/CISM preferred. U.S. citizenship and federal suitability clearance mandatory, with Secret+ clearance highly desirable.
• Strong financial acumen in budgeting, cost modeling, and investment planning.

Compensation

Salary ranges reflect anticipated base pay and may vary based on location. Individual compensation is determined by skills, experience, and other relevant factors.

Location Based Pay Ranges:

$174,876 – $233,168 in various states including AL, AR, AZ, FL, GA, IA, ID, IN, KS, KY, LA, ME, MO, MS, MT, ND, NE, NM, OH, OK, PA, SC, SD, TN, UT, VT, WI, WV, WY.

$183,621 – $244,827 in states such as CO, HI, MI, MN, NC, NH, NV, OR, RI.

$192,364 – $255,486 in states including AK, CA, CT, DC, DE, IL, MA, MD, NJ, NY, TX, VA, WA.
