UMIACS is a research unit of the College of Computer, Mathematical, and Natural Sciences at the University of Maryland, College Park. This internal search seeks a Director to lead the institute, which focuses on computational science across national defense, precision medicine, big data, cybersecurity, language and culture, and other areas.

Institute Director

Serve as the chief representative, advocate for the institute, and practice effective shared governance through regular consultation with internal and external stakeholders

Enhance the institute’s national research profile and strengthen partnerships with national laboratories, institutes, government agencies, and private industry

Cultivate excellence in outstanding research, teaching, and service among institute faculty

Recruit outstanding new faculty and staff members, and make recommendations with respect to tenure and promotions to ensure equality of opportunity

Plan and administer the institute’s budget in collaboration with the Dean and faculty

D. in computer science or a related field

Tenured full professor at the University of Maryland, College Park (or tenured associate professor expected to become a full professor by July1,2026)

Outstanding record in research and education, along with administrative skills and vision to lead the unit
