Cybersecurity Consultant – AI Security & Governance

Position Summary

Seeking an experienced Cybersecurity Consultant to help one or more federal agencies design, implement, and operationalize secure, compliant, and trustworthy AI capabilities. This role focuses on bridging the gap between AI governance strategy and operational execution by integrating security, risk management, and resilience into the full AI lifecycle.

This position is scheduled as a hybrid role with full-time working hours. Primarily the work will be done remotely, but there may be occasional onsite meetings so candidates must be local to the DMV region.

Compensation is hourly in the $125-150/hour range based on experience and qualifications.

Key Responsibilities

– Design and deliver end-to-end AI security and governance programs for one or more federal agencies.

– Develop and operationalize Trustworthy AI frameworks aligned with NIST AI RMF, MITRE ATLAS, OMB guidance, and other federal requirements.

– Assess AI risk, map existing security controls to AI-specific requirements, and establish governance processes to support secure AI adoption.

– Embed AI assurance, security controls, and compliance requirements into AI/ML development lifecycles and DevSecOps pipelines.

– Lead AI security assessments, adversarial testing, and red team exercises to evaluate resilience against threats such as model poisoning, prompt injection, adversarial evasion, and model compromise.

– Build and mature security operations capabilities to monitor, detect, investigate, and respond to AI-enabled threats and attacks.

– Develop AI-focused incident response procedures, detection use cases, and continuous monitoring strategies.

– Advise executive leadership on AI governance strategy, risk posture, regulatory compliance, and operational readiness.

– Brief senior stakeholders, oversight bodies, and governance boards on AI security risks, program maturity, and mitigation strategies.

– Partner with cybersecurity, engineering, risk, and mission teams to ensure AI technologies are deployed securely, responsibly, and at scale.

Required

– Significant experience in cybersecurity, security architecture, risk management, governance, or related fields.

– Experience supporting federal agencies and navigating federal cybersecurity, AI and compliance requirements.

– Strong understanding of AI/ML security, AI governance, and Trustworthy AI principles.

– Familiarity with NIST AI RMF, MITRE ATLAS, OMB guidance, and DevSecOps practices.

– Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills, including experience briefing senior leadership.

– Candidates must be able to pass a thorough federal background investigation.

Desired

– Relevant certifications such as CISSP, CISM, CCSP, CEH, Sec+ and/or other AI and Cyber-related certifications are desired.

– Current or prior Public Trust or Secret/Top Secret security clearances are desired.
