Configuration And Cybersecurity Specialist
Location: Hybrid – Ability to travel to Patuxent River, MD, as needed (approximately 1–3 times per month). Candidates must be located in or willing to commute within the DMV area. Compensation: $110,228 – 170,241 per year, depending on experience and qualifications. Employment Type: Full-Time Clearance Requirement: Active Secret clearance is required at time of hire
As a Configuration and Cybersecurity Specialist, you will support the operational security, configuration control, and ongoing authorization posture of government-supported systems. This role is hands-on and execution-focused, responsible for maintaining secure system baselines, performing STIG implementation and remediation, supporting patch management, executing deployments of Fortress SaaS capabilities, and sustaining Authority to Operate (ATO) compliance in alignment with DoD standards.
This position blends configuration management discipline with cybersecurity operations execution. The ideal candidate is comfortable working in secure environments, operating in Linux and cloud-based systems (AWS and/or Azure), and performing technical remediation activities while maintaining required documentation and compliance artifacts. This is an individual contributor role requiring independent execution, strong technical troubleshooting ability, and comfort working in regulated government environments.
Responsibilities Include:
• Execute and maintain secure configuration baselines across supported systems in accordance with DoD and government standards.
• Implement, validate, and remediate STIG checklist findings to maintain required compliance thresholds.
• Perform system hardening activities across cloud and operating system environments, including Linux-based platforms.
• Monitor systems daily to ensure security posture, availability, and compliance alignment.
