About the Role Our client, a prominent organization in Washington, D.C. , is seeking an experienced Security Operations Center (SOC) Manager to lead their dedicated SOC team. This critical role involves overseeing the monitoring, detection, analysis, and response to security threats and incidents affecting the organization’s IT infrastructure. You will be responsible for managing day-to-day SOC operations, developing and refining incident response procedures, and ensuring the effectiveness of security monitoring tools. The ideal candidate will possess strong leadership skills, a deep understanding of security operations, and a proven ability to manage a team in a high-pressure environment. Key Responsibilities Lead, manage, and mentor the SOC team, ensuring high performance and professional development. Oversee the 24/7 monitoring of security alerts and events from various sources (SIEM, IDS/IPS, EDR, etc.). Manage incident detection, analysis, containment, eradication, and recovery processes. Develop, implement, and maintain SOC procedures, playbooks, and workflows. Ensure the effective configuration and operation of security monitoring tools, including SIEM, SOAR, and threat detection platforms. Collaborate with incident response teams and other IT security functions to address security incidents. Conduct regular performance reviews of SOC analysts and provide constructive feedback. Stay current with emerging threats, vulnerabilities, and security technologies relevant to SOC operations. Develop and deliver training programs for SOC analysts. Report on SOC performance metrics, incident trends, and security posture to management. Requirements Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Security, or a related field, or equivalent experience. 5+ years of experience in security operations, with at least 2 years in a leadership or management role. Proven experience managing a SOC environment and leading incident response efforts. Strong understanding of security monitoring technologies, network protocols, and common attack vectors. Hands-on experience with SIEM tools (e.g., Splunk, QRadar, ELK Stack). Familiarity with incident response frameworks and methodologies. Excellent leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills. Ability to work effectively under pressure and manage multiple priorities. Relevant security certifications such as GCIH, GCIA, CISSP, or CISM are highly desirable. Experience working in a hybrid operational model within the Washington, D.C. area.
